The Truth About "Fresh" Orange Juice

Recently, I ran across an article about the "freshness" of premium orange juices. In the article, the process of how the juice is pasteurized and stored in vats up to a year came into question. When preparing for packaging, a chemical flavor pack is added into the juice to make it taste like orange juice again. The FDA does not require the orange juice companies to disclose the flavor pack in the ingredients. Many moms are understandably disgusted and horrified by this information. We have become a society that looks for convenience for our on the go lifestyle. But for the sake of convenience, are we losing the big picture?

Bloodspot Testing

I have recently introduced bloodspot testing into my practice for several reasons. Recently, I have had a few patients with symptoms that were not going away with traditional rehabilitation. The bloodspot testing allows me to adjust the patient’s supplementation, make changes in their diet, and improve their overall health.

The test is unbelievably easy to perform. It just involves a prick of a finger, dropping the blood on the provided card, and sending the sample to the laboratory for evaluation. Once the laboratory performs an evaluation on the sample, I am able to disperse the information to my patient.  I can use the information to see if my patients are supplementing with enough omega-3 fatty acids, have sufficient amino acids, have low vitamin D3, and even check their allergic reaction to certain foods. The tests also measure trans-fatty acids which is important in cardiovascular health.

If you have ever wondered if the supplements you are taking are working correctly or how your body processes food, schedule a bloodspot test.

Scoliosis - The Wait and See Approach

The "Wait and See Approach" has been used by doctors all over the world to see if the scoliosis gets worse before doing surgery. Why are we doing this? There is an alternative!

Scoliosis is much easier to fix if the curvature is smaller rather than larger. The wait and see approach goes against this very principle. Scoliosis can be reduced through spinal rehabilitation, specific doctor taught exercises, and neuromuscular re-education. Using the methods taught through Clear Institute, I have received reductions in spinal curvature, helping many people live better lives.
